The first day of Mia’s sixth week had passed and the smile I had been waiting for didn’t happen.

However, the next day on the morning of December 1st, I was at Aidan’s school getting ready to volunteer in his classroom when I received a call from Allan. He giddily told me that Mia had smiled at him. I was so excited but then equally sad that I missed it. That day when I got home I tried to make her smile at me but all I got was the wide-eyed, albeit beautiful, stare and a few grunts. When Allan tried to make her smile for me she began to cry. She was obviously having some tummy troubles and was likely upset at us too because we were acting like fools.

For the past several days though I’m happy to say that I have at last witnessed some smiles, the best one being in front of the mirror while she was looking at herself. I’ve been silently wishing that I had a robotic eye equipped with a camera so that I could capture those spontaneous moments. There’s been too many times where I’ve lost a precious memory because I didn’t a camera in hand. Well, this morning was wonderful too. As Mia and I were laying in bed we had a good conversation. She was all coos, answering my every question. She also gave me a huge smile and it was so lovely to see the happiness on her face.

Now I’m waiting for the laugh…
