    Garden stuff

My Mom gave this to me when it was only 8 inches tall. I think it broke off from the parent plant and my Lola just stuck it in a pot to keep it alive. After I took it home it survived having most of its leaves blown off by the strong winds here and now it's planted in my garden. It's about 2 feet tall now with lots of flowers, but those pesky caterpillars have been making a meal of its leaves. What a survivor though!

This one I bought from Home Depot and I was happy to find how nice its flowers were.

My Mom gave this hibiscus to me about two months ago. This is my favorite of all my garden pictures. I see these everywhere used as borders. It's nice when there's a mass of them but I think they look more special when they're planted singly (is that a word? well, you know what I mean.)

    Another Home Depot surprise!

I talked about how the zephyr lily in my backyard got pulled out when the trees were planted but I guess some of the bulbs got scattered in with the dirt and now I'm seeing random leaves everywhere. I was heartbroken when it happened but this one flower popped up last week and it just reminded me of how life finds a way. The flower's gone now but it did make a pretty picture.

My sampaguitas are in super-bloom mode right now. When we were gone during our vacation, our lawn maintenance people decided they needed a trim, which they did but I wanted to do it myself. I think they used a weedwhacker on it because I found leaves everywhere and some of its branches were stripped. I could hit those guys over the head!

Well, late summer's upon us and soon the flowers will be no more.

Oh, we had great fun last weekend at Grace's baby shower! I hope you liked our gift, Grace! Aidan was extremely happy to have won the SpongeBob snow cone maker. We tried it yesterday and he loved doing it, but we realized we can use it to make halo-halo too!

Last Saturday we also got the opportunity to eat lunch at Curry House in Irvine. We had to take Olie for his vet appointment and the restaurant was only a mile away. Allan had the fried shrimp curry and I had the rib-eye curry. It was so yummy. We were thinking before that after Olie's shots were complete we would find a vet closer to us but we think we'll just stay with them so we'd have an excuse to eat at Curry House. Mmmmmmm.....
