Having a puppy isn't the same as having a baby at home, but it sure takes a lot of effort. We chose Olie to be part of our family and we want our experience with him to be a happy one.

On July 4th, we had to leave him alone in his crate for a few hours and we knew we were going to come home to a mess. At least it was a small mess since he's such a small dog. Then, we wanted to watch fireworks but we didn't plan very well. Allan was suppose to be headed to Chino HS but we ended up at the Whispering Lakes Golf Course in Ontario. We took Olie with us this time and, luckily, Allan brought Aidan's wagon and we were able to keep him in there for a while. (It never fails that having cute puppy will make strangers want to talk to you.) After a little whining we had to take turns holding him but he doesn't like to be held for a long time. We weren't really able to concentrate on the fireworks show but at least Aidan-boy did. We even had a great view - no trees unlike the year before.

I think this was a good time to get a puppy since Aidan is able to help me in some ways now. He likes playing with Olie and he always wants to help in feeding him. We all go outside when it's time for Olie's bathroom break.

Speaking of being outside, I like taking Olie out to play but he wants to eat everything on the ground. He'll chew on the grass, pull at flowers, sniff in the corners and whatever he finds goes in his mouth. I've taken cement chips and mulch from his mouth. That's the only thing that exasperates me.

So apart from playing, eating and going potty, most of the time Olie is in his crate. He doesn't complain at all. He sleeps and then he lets us know he's awake by scratching at the door. Well, this is all for now. More Olie updates to come!
