The one where Aidan went to see the dentist
Last Tuesday was Aidan's first visit to the dentist. I was expecting him to give me a bit of a hard time because he woke up that morning saying he didn't want to go. Allan and I both took him and we were pleasantly surprised with the office's cleanliness and the friendliness of the staff. (Allan picked that office because they specialized in pediatric dentistry.) He got to play with Legos while we waited. Then we were called and he sat down in that big pneumatic chair and proceeded to answer all of the questions the hygienist asked him. She checked his teeth and he had a few of what she called "formation cavities", cavities that couldn't have been prevented because of they way his teeth formed. I liked the way she put vaseline on his lips before she started cleaning and she talked in a way that wouldn't make him scared. She called the dental pick a cricket and she said the cricket was going to help her count his teeth when she was actually cleaning them. Aidan was really patient with everything and he loved it at the end when he got his goody bag of dental supplies, plus he got to pick a toy from the "treasure box". But then we had to make another appointment to get his cavities sealed.

So today was the day for getting eight of his molars sealed. He was given nitrous oxide but to Aidan it was happy air that smelled like strawberries. I couldn't tell if he was giddy but he kept squeezing the rubber part that went over his nose. And when it fell out of place Aidan even told the doctor to put it back in the middle. He was also given local anasthetic for one of his teeth, the one with the biggest cavity. I was so afraid that Aidan was going to cry because of the shot but I guess he didn't feel a thing. Dr. Kevin talked to him in a soothing voice and kept asking him if he was OK. Aidan kept giving me the thumbs up sign. I couldn't be more proud of the way he was and I was also so happy that Allan found such a great dentist's office. Both Dr. Kevin and the hygienist praised Aidan for doing so well. Before we left Aidan got a foam airplane and some more toys from the treasure box. Then just an hour ago I got a call from Dr. Kevin asking how Aidan was doing. Aidan is actually doing quite well and Dr. Kevin said he wished all his patients were like Aidan.
